Spirituality and the Self

"Growing up, my faith was such an important part of my life, but lately I've been seeing it in a different light."

Your spiritual life, in whatever form it takes, has a place in your therapy if you want it to.  Met with curiosity, never dismissed or pathologized. That includes support for religious trauma and deconstruction, too.

The Spiritual Dimension of Life

Our beliefs about meaning, the sacred, or something larger than ourselves shape more of our lives than we often realize.  Our relationships, our choices, how we cope, how we grieve, what we hope for.  But this part of life can often remain unspoken in the therapy room.

When Spirituality is a Source of Help

You may have grown up in a traditional religious faith that continues to bring meaning and community in a way that feels life-giving.

Or perhaps you've always experienced the world in an intuitive, symbolic, or deeply resonant way.  Through meditation, dreams and symbolism, tarot, or other practices that don't fit neatly within conventional religious frameworks.  And you want a place to talk about that without having it dismissed or pathologized.

You don't have to leave those parts of yourself at the door.

Religious Wounds

Others have been harmed by their religious environments, which can leave lasting patterns around perfectionism, people-pleasing, shame, sexuality, relationships, pleasure, money, and the feeling that you must constantly monitor yourself to be a good person.

For some, this looks like religious trauma or religious deconstruction.  For others it is a quieter shift, but one they cannot speak about elsewhere.

Therapy can provide a place to understand what you've carried forward and decide what you want to keep, change, or leave behind.

2SLGBTQIA+ Welcome

My practice welcomes people of all races, genders, and sexualities, relationship configurations.  I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, sex-positive, kink-friendly, and welcoming of both monogamous and consensually non-monogamous relationships.
